Artificial Intelligence (AI) Use Policy
Artificial Intelligence (AI) Use Policy
The Khazar Journal of Water and Environment (KJWE) recognizes the responsible and transparent use of artificial intelligence (AI) tools in scholarly writing and evaluation, while emphasizing that full accountability for the scientific content rests with human authors and reviewers.
Use of AI by Authors
Authors may use AI-based tools solely for the following purposes:
- Language editing, grammar correction, and stylistic improvement
- Enhancing clarity and readability of the text
- Assisting with summarization or structural organization
The use of AI tools is not permitted for:
- Generating research data, results, analyses, or scientific interpretations
- Producing figures, tables, or visual materials without human verification and control
- Replacing scholarly judgment, research design, or critical analysis
Authors must:
- Accept full responsibility for the accuracy, originality, and integrity of the manuscript
- Ensure that AI use does not result in plagiarism, fabricated content, or scientific distortion
Disclosure of AI Use
If AI tools were used during manuscript preparation or language editing, authors must disclose this clearly in the Acknowledgements or Methods section, where appropriate.
Example disclosure statement:
“Artificial intelligence tools were used for language editing during the preparation of this manuscript. The authors remain fully responsible for the scientific content.”
AI and Authorship
- AI tools cannot be listed as authors or co-authors
- Authorship is limited to natural persons who assume scientific, ethical, and legal responsibility for the work
Use of AI in the Peer Review Process
Reviewers must not upload full manuscripts or substantial portions of submitted work into AI tools, as this may compromise manuscript confidentiality.
Reviewers may use AI tools only for:
- General language assessment
- Organizing review notes
provided that confidentiality and reviewer independence are strictly preserved.
Role of the Editor-in-Chief and Editorial Board
The Editor-in-Chief and Editorial Board reserve the right to:
- Request clarification from authors if improper use of AI is suspected
- Take appropriate action, in line with COPE guidelines, including rejection or post-publication correction
Policy Updates
Given the rapid evolution of AI technologies, the journal reserves the right to revise and update this policy as necessary.
